@Ginny, I’m from Oklahoma, I lived in Tahlequah, my mother was in Olkmulgee. I love the mispronunciations!!!

@j, That happens everywhere. Try pronouncing Medford, Swampscott, Peabody, Worcester, Leicester, Leominster, Gloucester, etc. if you are not a local of Massachusetts. 🙂

Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course is popular. Otherwise, there is Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco.

As a west coast Canadian, we try and do a spring trip somewhere warmer, so Texas was the place…a little bit of Austin, Waco, San Antonio and our favourite the Hill Country! Loved Fredericksburg and the little town of Gruene, it’s town hall had a dance with a local band. The most fun we had in years- everyone sitting at picnic tables inside, and dancing- for the families- ages 4-84!! Will return for the BBQ, the pecans, and the laid back vibe.

@Lisa, She merely spelled it the way it is pronounced in Texas. It’s awful the way out-of-state folks pronounce the names of places & streets here. EVEN when they have been here awhile!

It is true that more places are closed early in the week, but, every time we visit, we find more and more places opening. In terms of restaurants, check out Hill & Vine, Sage, Auslander, and West End Pizza. Locals love Pasta Bella, too. If you’re looking for wineries, Slate Theory, Signor, and William Chris are options. Luckenbach is also open every day. Plus, check out some of the historic sites and parks. I’m sure there are more, but those are the ones I know off the top of my head.

Very beautiful. Didn’t get to shop (road trip w/impatient husband 😉) but it was beautiful. Went to Enchanted Rock but it was closed for private hunters. Really? 😕 So, I had to take pics from the road. The sweet guy at the gate said it was recommended that you make reservations as it is busy ALL the time. He did give us a list of some local parks that were open & didn’t require reservations. So, I’ll be more prepared next time. But I will definitely be back to do some serious shopping & eating! 😊

As a local resident whom loves our visitors, can I please offer some do’s and dont’s for visitors.?
As far as wild flowers and bluebonnets. If you MUST drive through Wilow City Loop. DO NOT STOP! We literally have thousands of people drive around the loop everyday during Spring. Residents have gone so far as to destroy wildflowers and bluebonnets because tourists will get out of their vehicles and trespass onto private property, just to get that one picture. Guess what? Key word is PRIVATE PROPERTY. A friend had a Dr. appointment and missed it because a tourist parked in their road looking for wildflowers.

So,,,, please do not get out of your car while looking for wildflowers on Willow City Loop.

Also, Main St is awesome and nobody wants to hit another person with their car. We have had issues with people walking across the street in the middle of the street. Please use the cross walks. Too many have been hit by vehicles.
We want visitors to be safe so please don’t make hard for us to be sure your safe.

It’s one of the best places to eat and ambiance is great. Also, Pecan Grove for a burger. It’s about 10 minutes out of town, but completely with the drive.

Too much like that, in fact, for me. And for the other German restaurants here: don’t expect to get too much authentic German food there, especially not at The Lindenbaum. Being German and only having come over to Texas 7 years ago, I know the difference. What I also can’t understand is why the Old German Bakery, run by a native from Berlin, if I know correctly, doesn’t bake better bread [German style, not the mushy American], and not even any German “Broetchen” [breadrolls]. But other than that, the food there is good. I do like their pastry!
All that may sound somewhat negative, but I still enjoy living here in “Fritztown”, especially because all of the cultural venues and events they offer, and can highly recommend it as a vacation destination.

Truly a world-class museum telling new generations about the history that preserved our freedoms. In the summer, the museum’s volunteers even have living history reenactments portraying allied forces attacking a Japanese pillbox during WWII complete with a tank, lots of weapons and a working flamethrower. Lots of pyrotechnics and action to bring the story alive for everyone. So important and so well done, no one should miss it.

Something you should definitely do if you are going to Fredricksburg is rent a cute little house out there – much better than staying in a hotel. (We stay in a house every time we go there and it makes all the difference.) The LBJ Ranch is also somewhere you should consider going – it’s a great part of history and it’s really really pretty out there. I went this past Christmas for the Christmas tree lighting they have there every year and it was really fun and unlike anything I had really experienced before. It was like living in a really small town and the whole community gathering there together to kick off Christmas! The last thing I would HIGHLY reccomend doing is hiking Enchanted Rock – it is so beautiful and a really fun way to do some outdoor activity.
